Stella Gray / bum ba dum dum (heartbeat.) Music Video
While working on photoshoots for emerging musician Stella Gray, I suggested we collaborate on a music video for her new single bum ba dum dum (heartbeat.), which premiered on Stella’s VEVO channel.
I loved the upbeat, club-inspired song, and wanted to bring her lyrics to life visually. Stella had worked with Creative & Production Assistant, Kareena Rai, to create an initial vision for the promotional photos for the song, so I worked off of that moodboard and continued my visual research to create a more specific creative direction for the music video. Inspired by late nights in New York City, music festival and club strobe visuals, and the new-wave feminine pop-stars of the moment, I created the visual world of heartbeat.
Flashing pinks and purples on a giant LED screen combine with glittered outfits, New York skylines, and messy house party footage, to create a raw aesthetic and insight into Stella’s lyrics. Filmed solely on a vintage camcorder with many a jump cut and glitchy pink motion graphics, the video aims to work in tandem with the song to create a feeling of simply being in the present, feeling yourself, and taking on a late night alter ego.
